VPS除了可以放眼看世界和建站的用途之外，其实可以有很多种用途。在以前也曾有过讨论。但除了这两个答案里列出来的功能之外，还有很多神奇的功能，这些功能该怎么获得呢？今天来一起见识一下。

在开始之前，需要知道github与awesome是什么。

什么是github？

GitHub（又名Gayhub（误））是各路无论是大神还是初级码农都喜欢用来存放代码的地方。总之，一部分人就是这么慷慨，把他们辛辛苦苦码出来的代码无偿贡献出来。我们可以常常逛Github来获取一些有价值的开源代码。

什么是awesome？

awesome是一类页面，一些大神喜欢整理一些在这个领域里非常优秀的代码，于是整理出一个集合，就是awesome。例如awesome-python，awesome-selfhosted，awesome-ruby等。但需要提醒的是大多数awesome页面都是英文的，所以阅读时需要注意一下。

干货-有了VPS可以做什么

VPS是一台具备完整功能的电脑，所以我们其实是希望在上面托管一些东西，所以需要参考的awesome页面就是awesome-selfhosted，链接在此。

看过页面之后，你就知道，很多个功能，其中的blogging platform就是博客平台，也就是我们常说的建站功能。除此之外，还有极其多的其他功能等你发掘。下面就举几个例子。

1 你想自己搭建一个小型qq服务器，其实就是XMPP server这个类别，能够看到：

这款使用erlang写的xmpp服务器的网站。链接就是其官方网站。

2. 小型百度云盘，其实就是File transfer/synchronization这个类别。

这款云盘是owncloud的开源版本，名字叫nextcloud，个人觉得功能匹敌百度盘。

3. 自己搭建个游戏服务器

这款就是一个类似大鱼吃小鱼的游戏，之前还蛮流行的。

4. 搭建一个类似云笔记的工具

BulletNotes – Workflowy / Dynalist clone with Kanban (Trello) and Calendar functionality. Organize everything. (Source Code) MIT Nodejs

看起来用它做笔记还挺美观和方便的。

5. 密码管理工具

Bitwarden – Password manager with webapp, browser extension, and mobile app. (Source Code) AGPL-3.0 C#

有时不太想让商业公司帮你存储密码，那么可以试试这款开源的密码管理工具。

6. 属于自己的搜索引擎

Ambar – Document Search Engine (OCR, Store & Search). (Demo, Source Code) MIT Nodejs/Python

想搜什么东西，不需要去某度，直接去自己的服务器搜吧，嘿嘿。
